Students are learning that readers use different ways of reading for different text structures. Readers identify the type of structure a nonfiction text follows, and use this information to help them organize their understanding of the text. They have been reading a variety of narrative nonfiction, specifically biographies, to practice this strategy.

Third graders are changing the world, one piece at a time. As you well know, third graders are filled with opinions. They may argue for a later bedtime, fun vacations to Disney, dessert after dinner, or even for money to buy a phone! These persuasive kids finally get their chance to have their opinions heard in our writing unit: Opinion. Be prepared to be convinced!
